Save District 225 Taxpayers Money

How Paul Eisenstadt Will Save District 225 Taxpayers Money On Facility Projects

Paul put an addition on his house that included an air-conditioning unit in the attic.  When the inspector came, he pointed out that the air conditioner has a drain line that can freeze, so he needed to build a room to house the air conditioner to prevent drain line freezing per code.  The contractor looked and said it was difficult to build in the attic area and it would be $3000 to construct the room.  Paul looked and asked the inspector, “If the goal is to keep the drain line from freezing, then can I wrap it with heat tape and cover it with insulation instead of building the room?”   The inspector said OK and Paul wrapped the drain line with heat tape and covered it with insulation. Total cost: under $200.

Conclusion: Inspector issued and approved a waiver and closed the permit. (Filed in Village of Northbrook building department.)
